The Red Sea Brothers Islands

The Brother Islands, locally known as Al Akhawein Islands, are two islands of 0.1 square km one and 0.3 square km the other. These small islands are surrounded by great diving spots plenty of marine life and interesting sea landscapes to enjoy. The water temperature ranges between 18 to 26 degrees Celsius while the air one goes from 18ºC in winter to 40º C in summer.

These islands contain over twelve different diving sites of a varied type. In these places divers can enjoy very interesting wall diving as well as deep dives. Also, those who love corals might enjoy themselves by finding amazing ones in several of the Brothers Islands diving spots.

If you are willing to plan your visit to this area with time and according to weather conditions, it is recommendable that you go during spring and autumn. The most ideal weeks to visit the islands is during the last days of spring and the first days of autumn, while the worst time for divers to visit them is during winter.

Also, the biggest brother island has ship wrecks on its north side which are very interesting to see. Among these wrecks, divers can find the Aida II, an Italian Ship which was sunk in 1957 after hitting the Island. Besides the Aida II there are other interesting wrecks from different times which divers can meet and observe.

The Brother Islands are about 1 km apart from each other. In order to go to where they are, divers might find several safari boats and diving cruise boats that would take them to the place from Safaga as well as from Hurghada which are the closest spots.

One of the main diving spots of the Brothers Islands is the South East tip of the biggest island. This spot contains some of the most amazing corals and walls of the group along with a very wide variety of marine life. Sometimes, divers might be able to see a variety of sharks among other fishes. It is recommendable to go accompanied with a local instructor.
