The Isle of Youth is a very interesting Cuban island. To start with, it has had so many different names that it has actually made it be known as the Thousand Names Island. It has had several different names, although only a few have become official and have been widely used and known.

While it was ruled by the Spanish, the Isle of Youth was called the Isle of Deportees due to the fact that it was where those who opposed the ruling power were imprisoned. After that, the Island was named the Isle of Pines name which kept for several years, and it actually is the name by which many people thinks of it.

In 1975, the Isle of Pines was named the Isle of Youth and, since then, it became its official name. As its changing names show, it is an Isle which counts with an important amount of history and in which many different things have happened. It has been used as a refuge by pirates, several different countries have tried to threaten it, to reclaim it as their own and even to buy it.

The Isle of Youth is in the Canarreos Archipelago at the south of Cuba. There are other 600 islets around it but the Isle of Youth is the largest and probably the most known one as well. It is full of different attractions which make it ideal for people of all ages and families to go visit it.

One of the main attractions of this isle is the Colony International Diving Center. This diving center is a great attraction for divers from all parts of the world due to the uniqueness of the diving activities and sea life it offers. In The Colony, divers can find underwater tunnels, passages, caves, sea sponges, and even sharks among many other attractions.

The diving center of the Isle of Youth is also very famous by being host of the international Fotosub Underwater Photography Contests. This shows the richness of the underwater world this area has and the infinity of colors, shapes and photography elements it contains.
