Amirantes is an archipelago which includes 25 islands surrounded by coral reefs. This archipelago is located between Aldabra and Mahe and is one of the most popular Seychelles destinations due to its beautiful coastlines and the wide variety of sea and nature related activities they offer to visitors of all ages.
The three most popular Amirantes atolls are the Poivre, the St. Josephs and the Desroches. The Desroches is the largest Amirantes' atoll and the coral reef which surrounds it is one of the most beautiful ones of the area. Desroches reefs are not only amazing due to the attractive of its corals but also due to the variety of caves and tunnels which divers can explore while visiting its waters.
Desroches offers great weather and water conditions which turns it into one of the Amirantes areas most visited by divers all year around. Besides this, flights towards this atoll are scheduled very often which facilitates its access from several points. Those who wish to stay can do so by staying in one of the over 20 chalets of the atoll as well as they would be near a small village where its small amount of inhabitants live.
St. Joseph's atoll is famous among the archipelago islands due to the great variety of birds which can be observed while visiting it. This way, this atoll not only attracts divers but also bird watchers due to the uniqueness of the birds and marine life it has. Poivre, the third most famous atoll of the Amirantes group, also has a rich variety of birds which can be observed while visiting its long lagoon.
Another very interesting area which divers and mainly those who enjoy bird watching should not miss while visiting the Amirantes is Desnoeufs. Desnoeufs is not as popular as some of the other Amirantes are, but it contains an amazing tern colony which is a fantastic scene to observe. This way, the group of the Amirantes provides several nature related different activities from which visitors can choose and which they can enjoy while being surrounded of an extremely beautiful environment.
