Diving in the island of Lanzarote
Destination: Atlantic Ocean, Canary Islands, Lanzarote
Lanzarote is one of the east Canary Islands and one of the four biggest ones of them. It is about 70 miles from the African coast and its size is 12 miles wide and 37 miles long, and offers very interesting range of activities and views for visitors to discover and enjoy. From very amazing volcanic formations to beautiful white beaches, visitors can choose among a variety of landscapes and environments to meet.
The weather in this island tends to be dry and warm with a temperature which might go from 20 to 30 degrees. Even in winter time, temperatures range around the 20 degrees, and in summer time it hardly goes over 30 degrees. This characteristic allows people to plan their visit without worrying about seasons or choosing their traveling time depending on the weather.
Lanzarote offers a very interesting landscape which might be described as from another planet and is very fascinating. This landscape was created after the last volcanic eruptions which happened in the 18th and 19th centuries, giving it many stone formations which are worth to be seen. Besides this, the island has the advantage that, due to the non erosive environment, the characteristics of the landscape remain the same through the pass of time.
Among the many attractions visitors might find in this island, they can meet the longest volcanic tunnel of the world. This tunnel is called the Atlántida Tunnel and has a length of more than 7 km. Some of the most famous areas of the Atlántida Tunnel are Jameos del Agua and La Cueva de los Verdes.
Besides its volcanic related attractions, Lanzarote also offers amazing beaches which can be highly enjoyed by those who wish to swim or take a sun bath. Two of the most beautiful beaches of the island are Playa Blanca and Playa Papagayo, both of them with beautiful white sand and warm waters. Also, there are some areas ideal for snorkeling and diving as well as there are other spots in which many other sports, such as horse riding or mountain bike riding can be practiced.
